Hi Guys, This site is great. I am living in Shallotte, NC and my husband, Andrew, and I own a restaurant and catering company. I loved going through each page on the site. It brought back so many wonderful memories. I was disappointed that our son, Ryan, was not interested in music. He tried the trumpet but the boy has not beat. He is a much better golfer and baseball player. Anyway, I would love to see everyone again. Hope you are doing well Ronnie. Thanks for the site
I miss my family of MARCHING RAIDERS.After all these years of knowing each other,it`s good to know someone thought enough to preserve our memories good and not so good.I`LL always call you family!!!
squid you did a great job, it brought back alot of great memories. Some i wish i could relive and some i am glad i can not. Lewis will always be missed.
Thanks for all your hard work Squid! I have enjoyed all the pictures and comments. I do miss everyone and would love to get together. I now have a marcher myself! And I didn't even have to twist her arm! Boy has it brought back some fond memories!
Ronnie, How cool this is. Pam told me about the site this afternoon, had to sign on immediately. Thank you so much for including daddy in the site, you know how special we think he is. Keep up the excellent work. Take care, Karen
Appreciate all the hard work you have done on your site, Ronn. It really looks good and am sure is a great benefit for all Raider fans of Richmond County. Appreciate you adding a link to my site on yours. Today, I have done the same for you.
This is really great! I was hoping one day we would all have a way of getting back intouch with each other. I love the photos, brings back memories of really hard but great years of service. I'm very proud of the contribution I and my sister Brenda Bivens made. I marched in college at Delaware State College for one year as a music major, but then crossed over as criminal justice major at Livingston College and have been in the business for 13 1/2 years. If anyone wants to contact me they can at my work email that is given at the top. I check it everyday but Sat.& Sun., and my home e-mail is anbivens@prodigy.net .
Ron: Great site! Thanks for all the hard work. I think I've got my old uniform, a rifle, pieces of a tuba and one of those cheesey yellow blazers from concert band somewhere in my attic if you're looking for more memorabilia. I would absolutely kill for audio or video tapes of the band back in the day if they exist. Several people on the site have talked about a band reunion for our era. Would love to help if that comes to pass. Joey D.
Squid, we have communicated more in the last 3 months, than we have in 20 years. Ain't it GREAT??? GOD, we had a GOOD time in the 80's....Sometimes I wonder how we made it. I guess God looks out for fools and little children.
I now have you on-line as well as in my heart. I have 'bookmarked' 1983 - 1985 as some of my most rewarding days. These were the days I got to know the Marching Raiders one-on-one as we met and traveled together as an extended family. These young people were most unique; should they be turned inside-out, one could still recognize them, for they were the same, internally as well as externally, at all times. I have said, and continue to say, band members are the hardest-working athletes. Not only were they at practice on time, they had completed their obligation to mankind (chores and/or jobs) before hitting the field. My prayer is that one day they, too, will be rewarded with scholarships and/or fellowships for their dedication to their God-given talent.
And, if not, they still will be citizens of whom we are proud. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Richmond Raiders' Marching Band.
Surely, you do know that RSHS Marching Band was
responsible for the start of Michael Jordan's 'somewhat' success, don't you?
Remember when he came to RSHS gym for an exhibition game immediately after
signing a contract to become professional. MAN!!, THE THINGS WE DID BACK THEN
WERE AWESOME!!!
Marched When?
Right along with the students in 1983 through 1985.
Your Job?
I was honored to be elected President of the '84-'85 Booster Club
My name is John Tyson and I am in the 11th grade at Richmond Senior High School in Rockingham, NC. I am writing to you to express concern for the Richmond Senior High School Marching Raider Band. I am a member of the Marching Raiders and I play the Trumpet, I also play in the pit. Marching band is special to me, as it is to many other people that are members of the band. The music program, especially the band program, has been in rapid decline since the days when the Marching Band was really “the pride of Richmond County.” I am very concerned and would like something to be done about the marching band program in order to gain more support and interest in it. Hearing stories from many people, I have come to learn that the Marching Band used to be one of the most popular programs in Richmond County. There were over 100 members in many of its years. Everyone supported the marching band and loved them! Today, it is not the same. The pride is no longer in the marching Raiders’ b
Looking for some pictures from past. I have lots with myself & Donna Tuttle. Boy we thought we were the stuff on bells! My husband laughs at me being a band member, being in the band is a "geeky thing" here in MD. It just doesn't carry the same status level it did back in our day in NC.
Class of 1980! Raider Pride!
Remember the TWINS... Pat & Pam McManus. Our hearts are still in Richmond County. Yes we still look alike but do not dress alike.
Anyone remember the F-troop flag,Carswell's song,Freddie the frog(which was rescued out of the dumpster and i still have).Great times and great friends!!
This is great "SQUIDMOND!!!" Thank you so much for doing this. I have a scrapbook of band "stuff" that I will find and see if there is anything I can add. I agree with Amy---it gives me chills!!!
I'm married to Barry, and we have 2 kids, Maggie 9 and James 7, who keep me very busy with their social schedules. I can't believe the Class of '85 will have our 20 yr class reunion next summer. Seems like those band days were only yesterday.......
If you ever put together a band reunion, I'd love to see everyone again.
Ronnie!
I have chills remembering all of this. This Is INCREDIBLE. THank you for starting work on this. Would be great for this to be the beginning of another band reunion! TAke care! AMy
Still addicted to the Marching Raiders. I started a site for the Marching Raiders in Sept of 1997 and it took off. I’m now trying to build the history sections of the site as well as keep updates on the current Marching Raider band.
Marching band holds many memories, great, sad and of course SORE from all the marching. I always look back and realize the benefits that I gained that are discipline, maturity, and lasting friendships. Now I get to relive these memories because my daughter is in her 2nd year in the band.
I love those old pictures. You tend to forget those band days, but when you look at those pictures, you remember just how much fun you had and how you had the greatest friends in the world. I miss those days!!! Some of the things we did, I would murder my son if he did them today; but you live and learn. Keep up the good work Ronnie aka Squid.
Married, Divorced, No kids, prepareing to move to Phoenix. Still play my flute. I would love to know who got the videos that were made of each band performance. I want copies. I attended the band reunion in 93. LOVED IT!!!

Class of 1984 website, I realized how many great people, outside my class, were in the
Marching Band and how important those friendships were to me. I thought this site might be a good way to honor those relationships.
