The Raiders' 1979 season saw the return of...

     Band Director                                 Assistant Director

Tony Dinapoli             and                  Joe Allison

for their third season so, as you might imagine, the Raiders' music and marching was again tremendous, and in addition, they even looked extra snazzy on the field because of their brand new uniforms! The new uniforms, which replaced those worn from '72 through '78, would be worn through '82 season.  We can look back and see how the band looked in these photos, and now you can hear how they sounded as well by downloading this

Burns' Cup Judge's Tape

The judge was impressed with the Raiders' performance that night, and you will be, too.  A special thanks to Cathy Wiggins Parker (class of '82) and James Copeland (class of '80) for preserving this tape.

1979 would be the one and only season the Raiders marched under three,

count 'em one, two, three

Drum Majors.

Playing Fantasy For The Fans

Pam McManus directing the band, or is that Pat?

Pam or Pat McManus?

It doesn't really matter, but the not knowing is killing me!

One Trumpet Solo, Coming Up

As the band closes Fantasy, Max Blake takes the podium for his upcoming trumpet solo.

The Ladies Love A Soloist

Max Blake is a player who knows there is nothing quite like being surrounded by the beautiful Raider Guard women, especially if they put down their rifles.

Brace Yourselves Woodwinds

Soon those flags will be flying directly overhead!

Time To Break It Down

Enough lolly gagging, it's time to put the feature into Drum Feature

Work It Girl

You have to sell that show, because as a certain Ms. Kenna Duffield will say one day soon, "if you don't sell it, the crowd won't buy it."

Hold That Pose Ladies And Gentlemen

Up Close and Personal

Judy Hill (flute), David McRae (trumpet), Frank Boyd (sax), (drum line) Bill Bishop,  ?  , Anne Tyson, Jimmy Pearce (future '81 DM), Angelo Kaifos, and Kelly Woodward, (rifles) Karen Barbare, Sharon Poplin, and Penny Kirkley

We Came, We Saw, We Rocked The Crowd

Our work here, my friends, is finished.

Play That Funky Bass Drum

Just before school is released that Friday afternoon, the students all meet in the gym, so the cheerleader Marching Raiders can pump them up for the night's game.

Homecoming 1979

These Raiders are loaded with Spirit!

It looks like the band is playing to a full house at this pep rally.  I guess no one opted to stay in class and study again this year.

Rifle Jay Boyette leads this line of Raider Guard as they begin to circle Harrington Square in downtown Rockingham at the culmination of the Homecoming Parade

"Sit On It!"

Sophomore Ann Tyson, dressed up for Spirit Week's 50's Day, flashes a look that implies this catch phrase better than any Happy Days' character ever said it.

Uncle Trombone-er Wants You!

Sara Shortt (flag), Cathy Sauls (clarinet), and David Pratt (trombone)

"They want me to march with WHAT around my neck?"

Senior James Copeland isn't quite sure he heard that right.
