It's All About ME

The Pride of Richmond County

Where we ended the seventies and started the eighties.

As you probably know, the old familiar building where we spent our school days from the fall of  1978 through the spring of 1981 is no more.  The Kate Finley Auditory and the attached music and arts building is still standing and in use, but the U shaped building that started as Rockingham High in the 1920's was torn down in the summer of 2004.

Did you know that they had installed air conditioning years ago?      Air conditioning!

Of course we had air conditioning of a sort, but it was less a creature comfort than a type of training.  We conditioned our bodies to live through that hot, hot air during the fall and spring when the school's advanced cooling system consisted entirely of large windows (that were mostly glued shut with 50 years of blandly colored lead based paints) and an oscilating fan.

I still find it amusing when the schools send our kids home due to hot weather when the air conditioning breaks down.  Of course I wouldn't want my kids sitting in those classrooms without air conditioning, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single day of air conditioning in school before going to Richmond, and I certainly don't remember ever being sent home due to heat.

50's Day

With Happy Days at the height of its popularity, there were lots of wanna be Fonzies walking around, but none of them were as cool as Lisa Tumey and April Godwin.

Just ask Keith Whitley, Bill West, and Pat Evans.

9th Graders

Our time has come!
Now everyone must stand when we walk into the auditorium.
Know your place 7th and 8th graders, and recognize that you are in the presence of greatness when 9th Graders walk by.

Reading Is Fundamental

It may be fundamental, but judging by Spergie Blue and Sambo Potter's apparent level of enjoyment here, it isn't always fun.
