It's All About ME

RSHS Class of 1984

For each event, there were parents on every bus, and even more following behind in their cars.  The kids in the band weren't the only ones having fun in those days, but you don't have to take my word for it because I have the evidence here.

1983 MBA Nationals in Johnson City

In the fall of 1983, the Marching Raiders packed up and hit the road for Eastern Tennessee State University.

Francis Godwin (April), Aletha Lanier (Lynn), Diane Leviner (Kay), William Mercer, and Irene Lewis (Allen)

Mrs. Leviner was always lots of fun, but I wish she hadn't been so shy.

1982 MBA Regionals

Marching Raiders' band director Dennis Carswell having a laugh with Roger Staley (Angie) in the parking lot.  I personally think they are laughing about putting the girls in rooms on one side of our motel and the boys in rooms on the other while establishing a strong contingent of Boosters at all access points.

They were evil, EEEEE-VIL I say!

I have to admit it was a great plan, so thank goodness we were all so relentless!  That never say die attitude came in handy off the field, too.

Motel Says Welcome!

This motel was very happen to see us.  I wonder though if they were big marching band fans, or if they were just glad to have rented 100 rooms?

Diane Leviner (Kay), ? ( ? ) , and Dianne Brigman (Ronnie)

I have quite a few off the field pictures that are hard to identify, and those of the boosters are among them.  Fortunately my favorite band booster (other than my own personal parental boosters), Diane Leviner, remembers the photos with her as having been taken in Cullowhee.

An Award Well Deserved

Current President Roger Staley presents former two time president and eight year member of the Band Boosters, Jimmy Smith, with an award honor to his service, though Jimmy wasn't nearly finished offering his services to the Raider Band.

Boosters Watch The Raiders Perform

During our MBA Nationals performance, these boosters show the gambit of emotions.  Everything from apprehension... to pride... to joy can be seen on these faces.

Left to Right: Hector Phipher(Dean Mullis), John Cockman(Terry), Steve Mimms(Scott), Ernest Porter(Stephen)

Seeing them this way almost makes you forgive them for guarding the motel's access points, doesn't it?
