Happy Valentine's Day!

I added the cover of the program guide from the 1982 MBA Regional Competition to the MBA Competitions page.  Soon you'll be able to click on this guide and view all of it except the advertisements.

I've added a story to go along with a picture that has been on this site since the earliest days.  It is Tina Benson (Skenes) recollection of the first group of Marching Raiders taking a trip to Disney World!

I've added the story, which she originally posted on FaceBook, to the 1972 Season (the 1972-73 school year).  The picture and her story are at the bottom of that page.

02/11/2009

Corrected all the listing of R. L. Starcher to S. L. Starcher through the early and mid 1970's.

Cleaned up some other miscellaneous errors, etc...

02/07/2009

Cindy Coleman (Terry) contacted me with some corrections for her sister, Stephanie Coleman, and James Copeland.  I had them listed as Raider Class of 1979, but their senior year was 1979-1980.

Sometimes I get the marching season and the graduating class confused.  Please let me know if you find anything like that, so I can correct it.

Your input makes this place better everyday!

Ron Barnes emailed the MBA competition audio files he'd posted on the FaceBook group to me, and I've added them to the Audio and Video section.

I've added the digitized version of four cassette tapes (both sides of each), submitted by Tommy Dawkins, to the Audio and Video section.  These are a bit larger than the other files, so give them a few seconds to load into your Windows Media Player (or whatever default program you use).  You should be able to download these to your computer.  As time permits, I'll cut these down into their component performances.

I finished scanning all of the items (schedules, newspaper clippings, contest guides, etc.) submitted by Joey Davis - in 2004 - and hope to begin adding them to the site.

In order to add the festival and competition programs submitted by Joey (he had lots) to those I already had and keep them semi organized, I've renamed the More Marching Memorabilia link to Band Festival and Competition Programs.  I've moved everything that was there to the original Marching Memorabilia section, and moved all programs to this newly renamed area.

I corrected Assistant Director Mark Reese's name in a couple of places.  I had him as Mark Deese.  Thanks to Kim Anderson Cumber for catching that one!  Sorry Mr. Reese.

Remember, if you find any errors, have any suggestions, or want to submit something to the site, contact me.

I've updated the list of people offering help to the website.

I've added the webpage behind the Audio and Video link, so if you click on it, you actually get something other than an error message.  So far I have the two audio files submitted by James Copeland.  These are the 1978 Raider Band Day  and 1979 Burns' Cup Judges' audio.   I'm looking forward to getting more.

I've updated/corrected lots of the links, and added new images to some areas, so look around.

Remember to tell your friends!

01/15/2009

I've updated lots of the links to pages and images here and at my Class of 1984 website.

I changed the Lewis Meyers' menu item name to In Memory.  Lewis will still keep his own page, but Cathy Wiggins made a nice suggestion about a tribute to our other friends who've passed away, and I hope to expand that section soon.

I added an Audio and Video section to the main menu here.  Don't get to excited about the menu addition just yet though, I'm still waiting for some audio from some of the gang on FaceBook, but it is coming.

Updated the Academy list for those providing images and information.

Added a page to the 1981 Season from the pictures added to the Marching Raiders' group on FaceBook by Victoria Benson (Arick).  Somebody PLEASE help me with the names!

Ok, we all know it is a shame that I haven't done anything to this site in almost three and a half years, but maybe I can work on it a little 'here and there'.

For testing, I've updated an image and some text on the main page.

08/08/05

Added a new website to the Local Links page.  RSHS-Alumni.Org by Randy Smith and Thomas Pangborn is a great place to get together with the old gang.

They are considering adding a room just for the Marching Raiders.

Beware the nasty guestbook spammers!  I've made our guestbook a static page.  I have to add new entries manually, but we won't have to see the porno spammers anymore.  There are numerous links to the original guestbook page, so if you find one with the 'bad stuff' let me know, but otherwise the guestbook should now be a safe place to visit again.

Corrections have been made to the recently updated 1980 Performances page.  A dozen plus names added or corrected thanks to the efforts of Marching Raider History Cathy Wiggins

07/17/05

The Marching Raiders' 1980 Season has been updated!

Sixteen pictures have been added, and the original three have been rescanned.  Remember to click on the images to view photos at their full size.

I've locked down the guestbook, so spammers can't ruin it anymore.  The downside is that it will take longer to add new entries to the list.  The delay in seeing changes to the guestbook will only be a day, so don't be discouraged from signing in.  I know there are several who visit the site who haven't signed, so get on the list today!

Nothing like taking 6 months off, huh?

The (not so new anymore, but still great)  job has kept me away much  longer than originally  anticipated, but I haven't lost interest in this site by any means!

I apologize for the recent 'glut' of internet losers posting porn links in our guestbook.  I'm planning to make the guestbook a 'view only' page, and I'll add the new entries manually then.

I still have lots new pictures to add and have begun receiving  promises of even more, so I'll have to get back down to business soon!

Hope Your Having a GREAT Summer!

I'd like to thank the Academy and...

Our Parents for providing the film, cameras, and in many cases, actually taking the pictures that can now help us remember those heady hay days of high school.

RSHS's Class of 1984 for making my 20 year reunion so much fun that I decided to create a website for my high school pictures, because in doing so, I came to realize my marching band memories deserved one of their very own.

FaceBook for providing an interactive way to share everything with everyone and for making contact easier for us all.

             Ronn Brigman's Facebook profile

Tina Benson (Skenes) for sharing a story from the very first Marching Raider season, 1972-73 on FaceBook.com, so we could all enjoy it.

Ron Barnes (class of 85) MP3s of our performances at the 1982 and 1983 MBA performances.

Larry Harrelson (class of 83) photographs submitted from his Marching Days.  As with most of us, they were saved by Mom.

Tommy Dawkins (class of 83) for bringing me 4 audio cassettes from judges evaluating various Raider competitions.  I've converted these to MP3's and hope to share them soon.

James Copeland (class of 80) for providing audio files everyone has wanted for so long.

Victoria Benson Arick  (class of 81) for providing such great pictures, especially those from the 1981 summer band camp at Campbell College.

Cathy Wiggins Parker (class of 82) for being such a huge help!  Cathy's pictures have been great and she provided the 1979 judge's tape, but most of all I thank her for her knowledge of the Marching Raiders; Cathy is the Marching Raiders' Resident Historian, especially for the late 70's and early 80's.

Deon Cranford (class of 97) for his website, which is loaded with Marching Raider data.

Wendy Snipes Wright (class of 85) for delivering to me many scanned newspaper clippings and photos from the '82 and '83 seasons.  I know getting those items together was very time consuming, but they are a great addition to this site.

Larry and Ken Harrelson (classes of 83 and 86) for saving our horn line mascot, Freddie 'First Place' Frog, from a trip to the county's landfill.

Jimmy Smith, father of Karen (class of 80) and Pam (class of 83), as well as being The Voice of the Raiders, for recording his famous introduction of the Marching Raider Band, so we could all enjoy it again.

Michelle Davis Byrne (class of 84) for a scrapbook with photos, newspaper articles, memorabilia, and the promise of more to come.

Rebecca Kay Leviner (class of 86) for photos, memorabilia, and volunteering to be our Safety Monitor.

Aldo Simmons (class of 85) for photos, classmate info, and the promise to dig out those old scrap books he and his sister, Alicia (class of 83), have from our band days.

Gay Garris Rhyne (class of 81) for several key photo identifications.

Mrs. Coleman, mother of Stephanie (class of 80) and Cindy (class of 82), for providing the longest list of contacts to date and for her excitement about this site.

Joey Davis (class of 83) for photos, newspaper items, and various band festival programs from 1980-83.  And especially for not killing me for keeping them for over three years.

April Dawkins (class of 89), RSHS Media Specialist, for adding our link to the official Richmond Senior High School Website under the band section (Organizations>Cultural>Marching Band).

Nicki Moore, RSHS Media Specialist, for giving me access to the school's yearbook archive.

William Mercer (class of 80), for a newspaper picture of the 1979 Homecoming Parade.
