It's All About ME

RSHS Class of 1984

It was the Fall of 1982 when Lewis became the only Marching Raider to die while participating in officially sponsored RSHS activities.

Lewis, a member of the loading crew, died in a tragic accident after falling from the band truck while carrying instruments and equipment on a return trip from the Marching Raider Band's practice field to the band room.

Sixteen year old Lewis Meyers absolutely loved the Marching Raiders

Cathy Wiggins (Parker) remembers the night of his death;

"I was there from the moment Pete (Powell) ran into the band office and said, 'Call the rescue squad! Lewis has been run over by the band truck!'  I've never seen (then band director) Dennis Carswell move faster in the whole time I knew him. He literally jumped over the desk. The details of that night, and the days after, are as fresh in my mind as if it happened last night. Those last words I heard Lewis say (to Carswell) still haunt me...

'Am I still gonna be able to march?'

I believe Lewis was in the empty space marching right along with the Raiders that whole season.  He had a zeal that went unmatched."

He certainly did Cathy.
