The Raiders' 1973 season

In the years leading up to 1972 those who had played musical instruments and/or marched did so under different names.  Some were Wildcats, some Rams, some Rockets, and some Rebels, but with the beginning of the 1972 school year, those four names were all replaced with one name, Raiders.

As the Raiders moved into their second season, the first of many proud nicknames for the band developed, but unlike the rest, this would be a nickname only a few Raiders would be able to claim as their own.  Because it was only during the mid 1970's that the Raiders were

When you find a director as good as Starcher, you'd better hang on to him.

This season the Raiders attended numerous competitions and were awarded High Honors at Cary Band Day.

One of the most important aspects of being drum major is the serious face, and Gary has it down pat.

Wouldn't smaller pictures completely on one page or the other make more sense than a large picture with a crease down the middle of someone's face?
Inquiring mind need to know!

The lone Majorette

Lynn Hoyle is back for another season of spinning and throwing, so watch out marchers!
Don't worry, Lynn is very talented and Color Guard Captain Glenda Mahoney is always ready to yell,
"four!"

The Lone what-et?

I originally thought she was a majorette, but she doesn't have that uniform, and as far as I know, there was only one drum major in 1973.

A Drum Line On The Move

This year's drum corps included Carlisle Haywood, Clarence Robinson, Jimmy Burney, Calvin Terry, Tony Martin, Judy Deese, Ann Smith, Karen Hinson, and Lynn Harris.
