1974 sees the return of
S. L.
Starcher to direct his Marchers for another season. The following is
an article published in the 1974-75 edition of the RSHS Treasure Chest.
"Theoretically, the
instrumental music department of RSHS is designed to introduce the musically
inclined student to an instrument and the many devices and fundamentals needed
to express himself through music. The director's primary goal is to make the
student aware of as many musical styles and devices as possible tin order to
broaden his musical horizons. This is accomplished through such musical
organizations as the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble,
Wind Ensemble, Trombone Ensemble, and Percussion Ensembles. Each group is set
up to introduce the student to new musical styles which can only be obtained by
such groups. The instrumental department works extremely hard to create a
balance between musical aptitude and personal development. Here the student
learns the necessity of working together with fellow students for a common
goal. He finds that he must work extremely hard to make himself an important
part of a group effort. This group effort is instilled as a beginning band
student and may very well carry through out a person's entire life."
