Each Marching Season Lasts Only A Few Months,

but you are a Marching Raider for the entire school year.

Here are pictures from our 1981-82 school year.

The Taunt Of Power

Here, as a mere junior, Jimmy Goodwin begins to imagine the sweet yet savory taste of power he knows is coming to him as section leader of the impressive Marching Raiders' bass line during his up coming senior year. Fortunately, his rule would be benevolent.

Time For Celebration!

Time's A Wastin'

During band season every Friday night meant football, and after a good half-time show, the third quarter was ours to do as we pleased (within reason of course). Here junior Darrin McGhee grabs a quick snack at the consession stand.

The Raider Band Festival

It was one of the busiest days of our season with the first band performing at 9AM followed by another every 15 minutes until the Raiders' exhibition at 9PM. All those bands had to have guides to show them where to park, change, warm up, etc. Senior LaDonna Taylor takes a break outside the bandroom after her band finishes up.

The Pride Hits The Road

In May of 1982, the Marching Raider and Concert Bands took a tour of the Washington, DC, Norfolk, and Williamsburg Virgina. There were three performances during this trip including beside the Lincoln Memorial's Reflecting Pool, and here, on the steps of the U.S. Capital Building

Having homegrown fashion talent means, even when visiting our nation's capital, Pam Smith doesn't have to parrot New York or Paris fashions to look cool.

Dena West

I know this was a working vacation which consisted of long days and short nights, but I still think napping on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial was a bit much.

Norfolk Harbor Tour

One of the final events of our Washington DC and Virgina trip was a harbor tour and dance aboard the SS Something Or Another. Michelle Davis (head turned) talks with Richard Caulder during the tour, which provided lots of photo opportunities for Carolyn Suggs before the dancing began.
