With That In Mind, The Marching Raider Band Did Lots Of Practicing

Of course, in order to do lots of practicing we'll need to get a few things straight.

Oh yes, before bandcamp, you'll need to return this with your parent's signature.

Band Camp in Early August 1982

In a break from tradition, the Marching Raiders held band camp on the RSHS campus before their 1982 season, though the Color Guard did attend an out of county camp earlier in the summer. The post band camp exhibition was Thursday night August 12th, and the first football half-time show would be September 3rd.

Being In The Guard Has Its Perks

Angela Strong has figured out that if you twirl your flag juuuust right, you can create your own personal breeze, which is not too shabby during the lazy, hazy days of summer at band camp.

Is This What I Think It Is?

In her effort to cool off has Kelly Wells accidentally twirled her flag so fast that the material has completely disintegrated, leaving only the superheated pole itself?

Rifleers Get Their Own Perks

They can't really generate a breeze, but here Terry Eby is practicing how to look innocent just before nailing a judge from ten feet away.

On a side note, I'd forgotten that they make jeans in size negative two.

Sometimes...
They Come Back

After graduation there were always former Raiders, like Cathy Wiggins, who were willing to help the band by offering their time and experience. Having accepted the job and arriving in Rockingham just days before band camp began, Dennis Carswell was more than happy to put returning Raiders to work. Captain C recognized their value and used returning Raiders both of his seasons here, which just happen to have been two of the Marching Raiders' most successful seasons. Coincidence? I think not.
